Windows Backup is requiring a User ID and password to access the network share. I do not use a password on my system or my network as it is a self-contained home network. Is there a way to access a network drive through Windows Backup without a passord? Otherwise, Windows Backup is useless. For home networks, there is no reason to require a password. I followed all the steps in Steven’s reply, but it made no difference. Windows Backup is still requiring a password. The OK button is greyed out even though I have entered a path and a user name. Any other ideas? I now consider this to be a serious bug in Windows Backup that needs to be fixed. Place a tick-box in the form to cater for cases where the network does not require authentication? You are the best! Someone else wrote “I just entered guest”, yeah that statement does me no good.

Then Windows will successfully authenticate and allow the backup to run to your desired network location. I was having a problem with backing up a pc windows 10 through my homegroup through another pc which has my external hard drive attached.

I’m also backing up to a network drive that doesn’t have a password login is just Guest , and when setting up Windows Backup, I just used “guest” as the password and that worked.
