The benefit of using a web-based solution like Vector Magic is that you can easily create vector tracings of your images, without having to download any other applications or use any third-party plugins.

Another downside to this approach is that when I used it, it was really slow. It took a couple of minutes just for it to trace my example image, whereas Inkscape and Illustrator are nearly instantaneous. Between those three options you should be able to meet all of your vector tracing needs, as cumbersome as it may be.

So I will just avoid. You can use Inkscape to trace images and xnconvert to save to webp format. Both are free open source software. I have used DrawPlus since the first version! I had always upgraded to the new release up to DrawPlus X8.

Affinity Designer is essentially a remake of DrawPlus. DrawPlus is such a great program, but there are some areas that are lacking compared to Adobe Illustrator or CorelDraw, but for the price difference, hands down Serif always wins! I have been reluctant to purchase Affinity, since DrawPlus X8 is so great. Today after downloading the Affinity trial and one of the first things that I noticed is that there is no AutoTrace function! I thought maybe I was just not finding it, so I did an an online search and found your blog post.

I will say that I am shocked that there is no AutoTrace function in Affinity. Autotracing is the process of converting a bitmap into a vector graphic. In DrawPlus, autotracing can be performed in the AutoTrace studio, a dedicated studio environment which uses a variety of profiles.

The best Adobe Illustrator alternative for designing the UI for websites and mobile apps — especially with a team — is Figma. Figma is a cloud-based design tool that allows teams to work on projects in real-time. Another invaluable feature is the ability to make a clickable version of a website or mobile app, with all the various screens on one page. No more switching between windows — you can see how the interface works in real-time.

Figma has both free and paid options. Free and open-source, Inkscape is a full-featured vector editor with an active, loyal fan base and a highly customizable UI. Inkscape does have a bit of a high learning curve for beginners, and many will find the interface a bit antiquated. The Vecteezy editor is another excellent browser-based Adobe Illustrator alternative that allows you to create and edit SVG files without having to download any software.

Designed to be used by beginners and pros alike, the UI is clean and self-explanatory. This includes photos and videos, as well as vector images. The only real downsides are that an account is needed in order to save your work and large files can slow down your browser considerably. Vecteezy only works on Chrome, Chromium, or Opera.

Both a browser-based web app and a downloadable desktop app, Boxy SVG might well create the cleanest SVG markup out of all vector design software. True, there are other alternatives to Adobe Illustrator that come with a more impressive feature set, but none match Boxy for SVG creation.

Definitely one of the best Adobe Illustrator alternatives for web designers and anyone else who needs clean code when they create SVG images. CorelDraw is a powerful, full-featured graphic design program that covers pretty much the same bases that Adobe Illustrator does, just in a different way. Perfect for both web design and printed page layouts, CorelDraw comes with an intuitive interface, a massive library of fonts, and plenty of professional tools depending on which version of the program you choose.

You can also opt for the less expensive versions, both of which will meet your basic vector editing needs with ease. Like Vectornator, the free version of Gravit Design is a browser-based illustration tool that offers many of the vector drawing tools found in Illustrator. Gravit Designer has a nice, clean user interface and has all the features you need for creating icons, logos, and other scalable graphics.

Of all the apps on this list, Gravit Designer is compatible with the widest range of platforms. Affinity Photo offers a nice balance between accuracy and promptness thanks to their Selection Brush tool, which uses a built-in algorithm to automatically detect where the edges of a subject are, then allows you to refine that selection afterwards. In order to remove a background in Affinity Photo, you must first unlock the layer that the image is located on. By default, your image should open in a locked layer, as indicated by the little lock icon on the right-hand side of it in the layers menu:. Just to reiterate, this step is important.

If you do not apply this setting to your layer, you will not be able to delete the background to transparent. With the layer unlocked and primed for editing, we can now begin the process of removing the background by creating a selection around the background. I will say that I afifnity shocked that there is trace photo affinity designer free AutoTrace function in Affinity.
