Your tears flow. Sylvie is the mother of the then 10 year old boy who would grow up to be the Collector. Hard to put this book down. I would recommend it to anyone who loves crime stories. Fiona Cummins, is the author and would get my vote for the best crime writer, for the way her words are strung together.

They pull your emotions raw. I don’t remember where I heard about Rattle, but someone recommended it, and I’m so glad they did! I was wowed, and immediately wanted to read the sequel, The Collector. Both books are excellent. They are dark and disturbing, so may not be for everyone. I found them absorbing, intriguing, and very hard to put down. Highly recommended if you like psychological suspense with fascinating characters. I have not finished reading this book.

So far, I’ve not been been captivated. Interesting book, quick read. I read Fiona’s first Bone Collector novel, Rattle, and was blown away. I couldn’t wait to get more of her writing in my greedy little hands. And she does not disappoint with her second book, The Collector. Told in multiple points of view, the reader is taken into the world where a monster snatches those with physical deformities to add to his “collection. At times, in the beginning, it can be a little confusing to keep up with all the players and their own story arcs within the larger story.

Perhaps it felt that way only because I was rushing through the book in giddy anticipation. I did feel, however, that by the middle of the story, I had a cohesive look at each and every main character. In the second half of the novel, Fiona Cummins ratches up the intensity and you are literally on the edge of your seat, desperate for her many threads to come together.

Also, throughout the book, you are fed the story’s atmosphere with a deft hand. The overall feeling is akin to the hairs on the back of your neck standing up. You may find yourself cold and leery of the dark corners of your room. It’s just plain creepy. At last, with its final pages, The Collector did not disappoint. The ending was clear. The fever-pitch inside you unravels as you learn the fate of all the people you’ve grown to love or hate.

There may be those who read this novel and think that Cummins wrapped too big a bow on everything but I disagree. The characters were well-developed and interesting and they followed a story arc that made reasonable sense for them. And I have a feeling we’ll be seeing more of some of these characters and I, for one, can’t wait! I gave this book five whopping stars for the reasons listed above.

I loved the story, the threads of many lives all racing towards a fantastic and unexpected ending. I will read anything Fiona Cummins writes and I suggest you do too! After having his collection taken from him when he caught and subsequently making his escape from the police Mr. Silver is now on the run and looking to start a new collection.

Yet for all his morbid plans I spent much of this book waiting for him to actually behave like a deranged killer. He spent much of the book formulating plans and making preparation for the “grooming” of an heir to his collection.

Unfortunately, I found this a bit lackluster at times. Enter Saul, an intelligent teenage boy with a horrible home life and some secrets of his own.

Fiona Cummins has written another best seller. Filled with great characters, especially Etta Fitzroy, who I hope we see again. Hope she is busy writing book three because I am sat here eagerly awaiting it!

I read this sequel to Rattle immediately after finishing the first book and enjoyed the seamless manner in which the author continued the story. The book held my interest throughout with the introduction of strong new characters and a continuing build up of tension.

I particularly enjoyed the excursions into the past histories of some of the main characters which highlighted the reasons behind their actions. I would certainly recommend this book even though I have not awarded the maximum five stars. Why not five stars? Well, authors must be consistent when it comes to detail and I am inclined to be pedantic in this respect.

In Rattle, Chapter 95, after the killer is handcuffed and put in the police car, it reads:- “Although his movements were restricted, he had just enough flexibility to slide his hands into his lap Apart from this apparent faux pas, as already written, I did enjoy both books. This is good. Before you try this. I suggest that you read the first book in this series called Rattle. The reason being, is this picks up the immediate aftermath of the climax to that story.

You would be familiar with the major characters. Some of them, have moved out to a coastal location, from the turmoil of their life in Blackheath and other parts of south east London. It is at this seaside town. Leigh-on-Sea, near Southend, Essex. Where, new people will be introduced. Along with them. Are we going to find Brian Howley A.

A the Bone collector still up to his nasty tricks? Is Detective Sergeant Etta Fitzroy still searching for him? Has she found some peace and harmony on the domestic scene? Then, there are the Foyle and Frith families.

Have they been able to move on? Also, let’s not forget Mrs Rodriguez. The mother of an earlier victim of the Bone collector. Jemma King. I read the first in this series Rattle a few years ago so I was looking forward to reading this one. Too much description which made it difficult to read unless I had complete silence and really concentrated.
