The standard Mac symbols for modifier keys used throughout this article are below. Memorizing these is a good idea since you will see them time and time again in most Mac application menus and in Logic Pro documentation. NOTE: For clarity, I have used all capitol letters in brackets, such as [A] below, but there is no need to hold down the caps key unless explicitly stated.

One nice feature of Logic Pro is the ability to quickly program easy access to two mouse tools at once. The tool menu has two identical palettes. This is great when you need repetitive alternating access to two different tools. To program the right side, press the letter [T] and the menu will open displaying all possible tools with a letter next to each. So in this case with two keystrokes you can program the tool. These commands open editors in floating windows which is convenient for displaying more than one editor at a time.

Typing a number [1,2,3…. Any changes you make to the window configuration will automatically be linked to that number preset. To recall a screen set simply hit that number key. This is highly useful when toggling between views in mixing or editing. For instance, you may only want to see the mixer window so everything else including the main window can be closed or vice versa. Things like this always look great until you get them home and find out they either don’t work or don’t fit as advertised. I’m using this with a standalone Bluetooth keyboard that came with my iMac. It’s my understanding that this will work with Apple laptops as well, but as I don’t own one, I can’t speak to its effectiveness with laptops. With my keyboard, it fits perfectly and doesn’t obstruct using the keyboard for normal typing.

As I said, I was fairly skeptical that this would fit properly, and even more skeptical that you could leave it in place when doing things besides using Logic Pro X, but I was pleasantly surprised. The thickness of the cover is much thinner than I expected, but still has enough weight to it to stay in place. It doesn’t seem to move around much at all, even when just typing into another application. With the cover on the keyboard, it actually looks like it’s a single keyboard.

If you didn’t know it was a cover, you wouldn’t guess by looking at it. The feel of the cover is a bit slicker than I expected. I expected the silicone to have a “sticky” feel to it that would impede you from moving your fingers around the keyboard during normal typing, and that I’d have to constantly take the cover on and off whenever I switched tasks. I was pleasantly surprised to find this isn’t the case at all. It feels fine when typing, and I believe I’ll be able to leave the cover on permanently.

With the handiness of the labeled shortcuts for Logic Pro X, I believe I’ll save a lot of time, as I’ve never really been able to find the spare brain power to memorize the shortcuts. With this cover, I won’t need to! Overall, pleasantly surprised that a product actually delivers what it promises! Great tool. Colours are clear and legible. I love the flexibility and ease with which it fits the keyboard. Love it.

Not exactly a common problem but something I have trouble with nonetheless. I’m an 8 year user of Logic pro and still only knew a fraction of the shortcuts for the software.

This really helped me take it to the next level and continue to save time using the right keys. I love knowing where the button for catch playhead, loop browser, track markers, library etc are they really help my workflow. It’s missing a few shortcut labels, nothing glaring, and they are so extensive in logic it’s hard to fault them. The most important stuff is there. The color coding doesn’t totally make sense to me, but it looks nice and I think it does help differentiate the buttons and remember locations.

After a year of use, the silicon seems to have stretched a bit from the heat of the laptop. It’s still usable, but seems to fall off a bit more and interfere with typing a bit. I’m guessing I will have to buy another in 6 months or so.

I’m still giving it five stars because of how much it’s helped me do more and faster in Logic. One person found this helpful. Worth every penny.

I can even type a letter pretty good with it on. Like it much more than I thought!! Worth every penny!! Was a little concerned about the fit. But it has settled in and now I not only have a software specific keyboard layout, I have a keyboard protector as well.
