To log on as an administrator, you need to have a user account on the computer with an Administrator account type. If you are not sure if the account that you have on the computer is an administrator account, you can check the account type after you have logged on.

The steps that you should follow will vary, depending on whether your computer is on a domain or a workgroup. If you’re prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. Your user name is highlighted and your account type is shown in the Group column. Your account type is displayed below your user name.

If your account type is Administrator , then you are currently logged on as an administrator. If your account type is not Administrator , then you cannot log on as an administrator unless you know the user name password for another account on the computer that is an administrator. If you are not an administrator, you can ask an administrator to change your account type.

What happened to have THIS start happening? Windows 10 needs to be trashed. No one has time to waste on these problems! I deleted my admin account in Windows 10 pro. Then I log off from the windows for some work and when I returned back, I can see my deleted user name in login window.

You must have a working administrator account on your computer. Please check if there is another account which works? This utility is not included with Windows 10 Home. Would help to include that information and a suitable workaround. I have the same problem. I was trying to delete an app, which was not allowed as only by administrator. I made the mistake of changing that to user only. Then cannot change back. Yet, app management was not allowed even before I did that.

Windows 10 should never let this happen, the must always be an administrator account in Windows If the only account now left on your PC is a standard account, then you are essentially locked out of making any meaningful changes to your PC and while you will find many ‘fixes’ on the Internet, sadly, none of them will work because it is a catch 22 situation, you need administrator privileges to make those changes, including activating the built-in Administrator account in Command Prompt.

Honestly, the only thing you can do now to regain administrator control on your PC is to backup your personal files, then clean install Windows 10 by booting form a Windows 10 bootable USB. Thanks for your feedback.

How satisfied are you with this reply? It will launch the Computer Management utility on your computer. When the utility opens, click on Local Users and Groups followed by Users in the left sidebar. You will find an account named Administrator in the right panel. Right-click on the account and select the option that says Properties.

When the properties box opens, you will see an option saying Account is disabled. Untick the box and the account will be unhidden on your system. You are all set. You have successfully enabled the built-in admin account on your system. You will see the account when you log-in to your system.

Another way to login as admin Windows 10 is to create a new administrator account on your system. Creating an account is pretty easy in Windows and all you need to do is choose admin as the account type and you will have a brand-new account set up for you.
